Indiana time zone map

Twelve Indiana counties are Central Time. In the northwest they are Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, and Starke. In the southwest they are Gibson, Perry, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. The other 80 counties are Eastern Time. That split matches 49 CFR 71.5(b) and the list published by the State of Indiana.

Indiana has observed daylight saving time statewide since 2006. The old reputation that “Indiana doesn’t change the clocks” is out of date. Eastern Indiana now changes clocks with New York. Central Indiana changes them with Chicago. The IANA names are older than that compromise: many eastern counties are still filed as America/Indiana/Indianapolis and related zones, and two southwestern counties as America/Indiana/Knox and America/Indiana/Tell_City. In 2026 those names keep the same clocks as America/New_York and America/Chicago.

Counties along the Ohio River can be tagged America/Kentucky/Louisville in the boundary file because the simplified county outline meets the river. They are still legally Eastern Time.
