Standard time zones are defined in 49 CFR Part 71. Daylight saving time is in the Uniform Time Act, and states may exempt themselves. Where this site and the regulation disagree, the regulation wins. County samples can miss a city-sized exception or pick up a neighboring state because the Census outline is generalized.

Time zone polygons are offered under the Open Database License. See the attribution page before you copy the boundary data. Census boundaries are public domain. The text and page design of this site are published with the source repository.
